- Teeth like stars - how they do it, why are they always straight and white?

05/10/2021 ~2 min.
Pop artists and movie stars, both “ours” and foreign ones, under any circumstances and from any angle, always demonstrate snow-white smiles, literally “sparkling” with beautiful, even, perfectly white teeth. How such teeth are “made”, are there any shortcomings and how much does it cost - in the DI material.
Whitening with the Air-Flow system ("Air-Flo")
The Air-Flow system (“Air-Flo”) is usually used after ultrasonic cleaning and is included in the complex of professional oral hygiene. The essence of Air-Flow is that an air stream mixed with particles of water and a special cleaning powder (soda-based) is supplied through a special nozzle. This removes the dark bacterial film from the enamel and polishes the enamel. As a result, teeth look 1-2 shades lighter (the original natural shade), acquire shine1 and also become more protected, because It is quite difficult for bacteria to attach to a polished surface.
Tom Cruise, 56 years old
In photographs of Tom Cruise at different ages, slight problems with his bite are visible: he moves slightly to the left, which causes a violation of the central axis, while the shape of the teeth remains unchanged. Conclusion: Tom Cruise has never done anything drastic with his teeth. But he watches them very carefully, regularly goes for medical examinations, cleanings and treats them as needed.
Whitening using enamel remineralization
Remineralization saturates tooth enamel with “building” elements – calcium, phosphorus, fluorine. As a result, it becomes stronger and lighter (but not by much, only 1-2 tones). In dentistry, a special two-phase system is used - deep fluoridation, suitable for adults and children with mixed dentition. At home, you can use pharmaceutical remineralizing gels (for example, ROCS), which are available for adults and for children from 2-3 years of age.
On a note! All of the above measures will not make the smile snow-white, like that of a screen star, but, nevertheless, they will lighten it a little - and this will still be noticeable from the outside. But to make your teeth truly white, i.e. To whiten them significantly (by 8-15 tones), you need to turn to professional bleaching.
Cristiano Ronaldo, 33 years old
Ronaldo also had problems with his teeth, but not particularly significant ones, mainly related to his bite. To fix it, the football star was forced to wear braces for a while. It is clearly noticeable that after straightening the teeth, the upper lateral incisor was removed and an implant was installed in place of the missing tooth. The most Ronaldo did with his teeth was in-office whitening.
Photobleaching – ZOOM technique and others
Why do stars have snow-white teeth? The answer is simple - to improve their appearance, they turn to specialists. For example, one of the most popular methods is photo-whitening ZOOM 3 and ZOOM 4. Its essence is that a gel containing bleaching substances - hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxide - is applied to the tooth enamel. Next, the doctor turns on a special lamp with ultraviolet light, under the rays of which a chemical reaction begins in the gel. Its components penetrate the enamel and lighten it by 10-15 tones, making it truly snow-white.
In addition to the ZOOM method, Amazing White and Beyond are widely used. But they have a slightly different concentration of active substances, there is no ultraviolet light in the lamp, and the brightening effect is less pronounced than that of Zoom.
Miley Cyrus, 25 years old
Beloved by schoolchildren around the world, Hannah Montana had a dental pathology at an early age: a low crown part of the dentition, which led to the fact that her gums visually hung over her teeth. At the same time, the teeth themselves were small.
Modern photographs of the singer indicate that she coped with her problems with the help of veneers. The smile area, bite, shape and color of the teeth have changed dramatically for the better, and the gums look raised.
How to whiten your smile with a laser
The principle of the technique is somewhat similar to photobleaching - a gel is also applied to the enamel, but it will be activated by a laser (diode or neodymium). The length of the laser beam is specially designed so as not to harm the teeth - not to overheat them and prevent injury. Dentists even note the fact that the laser not only perfectly whitens a smile by 10-15 tones, but also makes the enamel stronger, i.e. protects against caries.
“I finally decided to have laser whitening and it wasn’t a bad choice at all. Three years ago I did Zoom, but after it my teeth ached terribly, to the point of tears. The doctor said that this is a reaction of the body and this happens. But I didn’t need that anymore)) And after the laser, nothing bothered me at all, and my smile just became great.”
Alena, review from the women's forum woman.ru
Prokhor Chaliapin
The performer also followed the path of least resistance, so he decided to correct his problems with his teeth (slight curvature and malocclusion) with the help of the already mentioned composite veneers. The difference between ceramics and composite is always noticeable to a specialist: there is no complete fit to the teeth, there are no crevices, there is an unnatural shade.
You need to understand that composite veneers are made from plastic, and it is a toxic material, because food and food debris constantly settle on it. In this regard, composite veneers quickly lose their original whiteness and constantly require professional dental whitening.

THERE ARE CONTRAINDICATIONS SPECIALIST CONSULTATION IS REQUIRED
Chemical enamel whitening
The chemical whitening method is more gentle than ZOOM, but also involves the application of a special active gel with hydrogen peroxide. Lamp activation is not used here, because the active components begin to “work” immediately after application. The most popular technique is called Opalescence Boost PF - here the active gel contains not only whitening, but also enamel remineralizing components (fluorides and trace elements).
Interesting fact! Before photo, laser or chemical whitening, dentists recommend taking a course of professional hygiene (ultrasound treatment and Air-Flow) in order to achieve maximum whitening effect. It is also necessary to strengthen the enamel with a course of remineralization, because chemical components can weaken it and increase tooth sensitivity.
Fluoride bleaching
Fluoride bleaching, also called lamp bleaching, is performed by exposure to halogen radiation. A mixture of hydrogen peroxide is first applied to the surface of the teeth, and then exposed to light. During the chemical reaction, active oxygen is released, which lightens the pigmentation of the deep layers of dentin. The duration of the procedure is up to 1.5 hours, it is carried out by the attending physician in three stages. This type of whitening lasts for two years. After the procedure, tooth sensitivity may increase.
Contraindications to the procedure may include:
- age up to 20 years;
- increased sensitivity;
- presence of caries;
- allergies to the reagents used;
- increased abrasion of enamel.
Microprosthetics with veneers and lumineers
Often people who want to get really white teeth, like Hollywood stars, do not know what this whitening method is called. In fact, beautiful teeth among stars are not always the result of whitening procedures. Celebrities often resort to special coverings for their front teeth - veneers. Also very popular is a unique type of veneers called “Lumineers,” which are created in only one laboratory in the United States. Veneers not only give a whiter smile, but also “hide” minor defects (chips, cracks) and correct minor bite pathologies.
Veneers are permanent microprostheses, the thinnest plates that can be created from porcelain, ceramics, glass ceramics, and zirconium dioxide. Depending on the properties of the material, you can get truly beautiful and durable teeth that will delight their owner for 10-20 years or more. Popular brands of veneers are E.max, Empress, Prettau.
Interesting to know! Manufacturers make materials not only pure white - after all, “faience” whiteness looks unnatural. Veneers are painted in light but natural shades, which will look more advantageous than snow-white ones. By the way, according to experts, the optimal color of teeth should be only 3-4 shades lighter than the color of human skin.
Prosthetics with veneers
Whitening methods are good when your teeth are straight and without damage. But what to do if there are dental defects? To correct all kinds of defects, veneers are installed - these are thin porcelain plates that are attached to the surface of the teeth. To make them, microprostheses are made using casts of the jaw. They turn out to be very thin, 0.3-0.5 mm, so their installation does not require much grinding of the enamel surface, as, for example, for a crown. They are made from ceramics or composite materials.
There are medical indications for their installation:
- interdental gaps;
- slight curvature;
- chips, cracks of the crown;
- yellow enamel;
- rapid abrasion of enamel;
- short crowns of the anterior incisors.
Thanks to veneers, teeth become perfect and snow-white. These veneers are often used on one or two teeth. They last for about five years.
Installed veneers will make your smile perfectly white. Microprostheses do not lose color over time. If you take proper care of them, they will last you a very long time. The disadvantages of the procedure are the poor strength of composite materials, the need to grind down your teeth, and the high price.
But this procedure also has contraindications:
- significant damage to the crown;
- inflammation of the gums around the teeth;
- caries;
- straight bite;
- bruxism.
Prosthetics with crowns and bridges
In cases where teeth are severely damaged, have large fillings, or have had their canals treated many times, the optimal solution is to install crowns made from modern materials (ceramics, ceramic composite, zirconium dioxide). You can also install a whole bridge of several crowns if a large number of teeth are destroyed or some of them are missing.
However, dentists now recommend installing implants rather than bridges. Because bridges quickly fail under chewing load, but implants last forever - and provide the highest comfort and aesthetics of a smile.
Treatment methods
In cases where “short” teeth do not affect the functionality of the dentofacial apparatus, they are a purely aesthetic problem, and their correction is determined by the patient’s desire.
But if a functional problem is added to a cosmetic problem, the doctor must recommend mandatory treatment to the patient. Its method depends on the diagnostic results.
There are three main methods of treatment. Two of them are surgical – frenulum cutting and gum grafting. 3rd – prosthetic. Sometimes orthodontic correction is performed before microdentia treatment.
Lip frenulum trimming
If the cause of “short” teeth is a long frenulum hanging over the crowns, it is trimmed and sutured. The operation is performed under local anesthesia at any age .
Gum plastic surgery
The technology is used for microdentia of several adjacent teeth. A prerequisite for gum surgery is the healthy condition of the dental and periodontal tissues in the area of the operation.
Gumplasty or gingivectomy involves excision of the edge of the gum to expose part of the clinical crown and increase its height. As a result of the operation, the position of the gum line changes.
As an additional treatment after gum surgery, remineralization of teeth may be necessary, since the less mineralized part of the crown located under the gum may have increased sensitivity to mechanical and chemical influences. That is, the patient will suffer from hyperesthesia.
Veneers and Lumineers
Treatment of “short” teeth with veneers and lumineers is recommended for isolated, single microdentia, trema and diastema.
With the help of thin onlays fixed to the vestibular surface of the enamel, most visual defects can be corrected, and “short” teeth are no exception. Covering them with veneers and lumineers allows you to create the full effect of a normal size.
The advantage of the method is that with the help of veneering you can change the size of the crown in any direction, both in height and width. Its main disadvantage is the relatively high price, which increases when using lumineers or veneers made of high-quality materials, such as zirconium oxide, for example.
If none of the above methods are suitable for a particular case of microdentia, you can use prosthetics - installing artificial crowns or even bridges. The latter case requires the removal of a “short” tooth that cannot be corrected.
Where to get the smile of your dreams?
How and where do you get snow-white teeth like stars? To carry out professional whitening, you need to contact a clinic that has the appropriate equipment and experienced specialists. Teeth are whitened by a dental hygienist, but this procedure can also be performed by a dental therapist - contacting any of these doctors will allow you to get teeth like a star.
The installation of veneers, lumineers and crowns is carried out by an orthopedic dentist, and implantation is carried out by an implantologist. If your bite needs correction with braces, you should first visit an orthodontist.
Nicolas Cage, 54 years old
In the early photographs of Nicolas Cage, dental problems are noticeable: the bite, color, shape of the teeth, and the smile area in general left much to be desired.
In later photographs, it is noticeable that the Hollywood star, everyone’s favorite “Ghost Rider” and “The Family Man,” had prosthetics, not with veneers, but with crowns. Most likely, Cage and Demi Moore have one dentist between them, since one can feel the same style: prosthetics cannot be called ideal - they tried to change the shape, color, and area of the smile, but the bite, unfortunately, remained the same. The dentition still moves to the left, as before the installation of crowns.
Which star gave himself a snow-white smile?
It is quite difficult to get an answer to this question from the celebrities themselves. But if you carefully examine the smiles of the stars, it becomes clear that almost every famous person undergoes whitening on a regular basis. And if he doesn’t, then he gets veneers or lumineers to make his appearance even more attractive and not lose popularity. Only a few can boast of ideal white and naturally straight teeth.
If we turn to world stars with a “Hollywood” smile, which they acquired some time after they became very popular, then we can focus on the following personalities - Marilyn Monroe, Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts, Madonna, George Clooney, David Beckham , Emma Watson and many others.
How much does it cost?
We figured out how stars get their teeth done, but the most interesting question remains - what is the price of a Hollywood smile?
The cost of perfectly white teeth is usually the price of one veneer multiplied by the number of teeth that need to be covered. As a rule, we are talking about six front upper and lower teeth (i.e. 12 units). If the patient has a wide smile, during which more teeth are exposed, then the procedure will cost even more.
City | Cost of 1 unit (“from”) | Cost for 12 teeth (“from”) |
Moscow | From 30 thousand rubles | From 360 thousand rubles |
Saint Petersburg | From 25 thousand rubles | From 300 thousand rubles |
*the given prices are not a public offer and are taken from open sources
In addition to the figures mentioned above, keep in mind that in addition to installing the restorations themselves, you will need to cure all caries in the mouth, as well as remove (if present) any other problems of the oral cavity, gums, etc.

Parameters of an ideal smile
It would seem that it could be simpler: white, even teeth, a complete dentition, absence of dental diseases - that’s all you need. But creating an ideal smile in dentistry is a whole science, and the doctor does not act as a doctor, but rather as an artist creating a full-fledged work of art. An ideal smile has certain parameters that modern aesthetic dentistry focuses on.
- Parallelism of horizontal lines
: the eyes, the cut of the mouth, the cutting edges of the front incisors and an imaginary line connecting the cutting edges of the canines.
- Visual reduction in tooth size from the center to the edges
, allowing you to create the illusion of perspective. In this case, the ratio of the width of the anterior incisors, lateral incisors and canines is 1.6:1:0.6, and the width of the anterior incisors relates to their height as 0.7 - 0.8 to one. The front incisors should meet on the projection of the midline of the face, connecting the middle of the bridge of the nose and the center of the chin. In addition, the edges of the upper teeth should follow the curve of the lower lip, and the upper lip should cover the gum line of the teeth, leaving only triangles between the teeth.
- When creating the perfect smile, we also take into account the height of the concave gum line around the necks of the teeth and its level for each group of teeth
, interdental angles, which should increase from the incisors to the molars, the sharpness of the incisor angles, which is more pronounced in men than in women, and many more parameters. For example, the incisal edges of the incisors may protrude a little more to create a more aggressive appearance. This masculine smile is considered ideal for the stronger sex, because it allows you to create the illusion of strength, success, and self-confidence.
When is tooth lengthening necessary?
Lengthening the coronal area of a tooth is possible for various reasons: aesthetic, functional and restorative.
- The first group includes patients seeking to lengthen their teeth due to their cosmetic deficiencies (in particular, an inharmonious relationship between teeth and gums and the presence of a so-called gummy smile).
- Bad habits and endless stress have increased the percentage of people with increased tooth wear among residents of modern society. Such patients resort to surgical crown lengthening and orthopedic correction.
- Patients with a completely destroyed coronal part through surgical lengthening receive the effect of covering the hard tissues of the tooth. This allows you to fully distribute the load on the jaws when chewing and prevent fracture of the tooth root, as well as decementing of the orthopedic structure.
- Orthopedic or therapeutic restoration, for example, of a chipped fragment of the crown of a front tooth, is also essentially an extension of the clinical crown of a given tooth due to the free space between the antagonist teeth. This is the last group of indications for tooth lengthening, when, for example, a filling or ceramic veneer restores its height.
Suspiciously beautiful smiles of stars. How do they do it and how much does it cost?
Alla Borisovna Pugacheva
It's no secret that in the Soviet Union, the beauty of a smile was given less importance than it is now. However, as soon as a newfangled procedure, implantation, came to Russia, the Prima Donna immediately mastered it. Unfortunately, Alla Borisovna’s relationship with Russian dentists did not work out at that time: at that time, this procedure had not yet been developed in Russia. The implants did not take root, and she had to go to Western clinics, where she found more advanced technologies at that time.
Implantation today is considered the most advanced method of dental prosthetics; implants take root in 98% of cases. An artificial root is installed to replace the lost tooth, without affecting the neighboring teeth in any way. If, when installing bridge structures, neighboring abutment teeth have to be ground down and depulped, then during implantation they remain in their original form.
Implantation today is a common procedure that is performed in almost every dental clinic. Prices vary depending on the materials chosen. Thus, in economy-class dentistry using not the most expensive materials, you can spend from 30 thousand per tooth, and in business and premium class - in the region of 60-100 thousand rubles per tooth. A crown for an implant can cost from 30 to 80 thousand rubles.
Taisiya Povaliy
The singer used to be terribly afraid of dentists and brought herself to the point where her teeth could not be saved, but only removed. So Taisiya lost most of her teeth, and at some point the bridges could no longer be reliably attached. Implantation came to her rescue. Taisiya, like the Diva, did not trust Russian specialists and went to Switzerland for dental treatment, or, according to other sources, to America.
In the USA, the procedure for implanting one tooth costs from 1,500 to 6,000 US dollars, and judging by Taisiya’s stories, she needed much more.
Tina Kandelaki
Journalist and TV presenter Tina Kandelaki prefers a natural smile. At the same time, she goes to the dentist regularly, as she closely monitors her health. She probably did have her teeth whitened, but it is obvious that the shape of the teeth was not changed and even their color remained natural.
But one day Tina Givievna surprised fans by placing a diamond weighing 0.98 carats as a decoration for her teeth. Experts immediately valued the celebrity’s new smile at 800 thousand rubles. As for whitening, on average in Moscow, professional whitening in a clinic costs around 25 thousand rubles. And they do it no more than 1-2 times a year.
Ksenia Sobchak
As a teenager, Ksenia’s teeth looked small, but now they are much longer. There are photographs online of Ksenia wearing braces, but, unfortunately, not all smile imperfections can be corrected with the help of orthodontic devices. Sometimes it is necessary to use orthognathic surgery if the disorders are at the skeletal level. This is a very difficult operation that not everyone will agree to.
So the famous journalist, according to rumors, abandoned her. But at the same time, she regularly undergoes dental examinations and whitens her teeth - this is a safe aesthetic procedure that no media person will refuse, because it makes her teeth look neater and her smile brighter.
Vera Brezhneva
Vera Brezhneva, even at school, suffered from ridicule from her classmates: her tall height made her stoop, her late development made her feel embarrassed about her lack of breasts, and her large teeth made her hide her smile. Much has changed since then, and no one would even think of mocking the former lead singer of VIA GRA because of her appearance. In addition to Vera learning how to take care of herself, finding her own style and loving herself, she began to carefully take care of her teeth. After her wisdom teeth erupted, her dentition became disrupted and she had to wear braces. The girl could not show off noticeable locks: her image as a member of a popular music group did not allow this, so she put on invisible lingual ones. She managed to straighten her teeth, and since then the singer regularly, twice a year, visits the dentist and has professional cleaning. “You need to take care of your health, especially your teeth,” Vera Brezhneva assures.
Shura (Alexander Medvedev)
More than his vocal abilities, the singer Shura is famous for the absence of two upper incisors. His brother knocked them out for him in his youth. Over time, Shura turned this flaw into a calling card, but the years take their toll, and the teeth begin to “move apart” towards the defect. “And I didn’t want to eat porridge and mashed potatoes, but a normal piece of meat, for example,” the singer admits.
The solution was to install implants, and in order to have something to shock his loyal fans, Alexander chose the whitest color from those offered. Usually, dentists do not recommend choosing a color lighter than the whites of the eyes, but the singer found a loophole here too and began dripping whitening drops into his eyes. As a result, your smile shines brighter than plumbing fixtures, and your eyes are bright and sparkling.
Maria Pogrebnyak
Maria Pogrebnyak, the wife of Pavel Pogrebnyak, Dynamo Moscow striker, was last year named the most beautiful among the wives of Russian football players. This beauty was not given to her for nothing, although by nature Maria is a very attractive girl. Numerous procedures from a cosmetologist and plastic surgeries gave her the fame of a “plastic doll.”
As usual, teeth play an important role in appearance, and the girl also improved them. Snow-white color, lack of transparency, like natural enamel, even shape of the cutting edge - all this indicates the installation of veneers. Their cost starts from 48 thousand rubles per unit, of which, as a rule, 10 are required: from the sixth tooth on the left to the six on the right.
A perfect smile means straight teeth
In the case of incorrect bite and teeth position, it is advisable, first of all, to undergo treatment by an orthodontist using braces or a mouth guard to straighten the teeth. Today this can be done at any age. During the treatment process, you can choose a system that suits your aesthetic needs and financial capabilities. For example, metal braces are a classic of orthodontics, and even they have become smaller over time, and therefore less noticeable on the teeth. Among their undoubted advantages are their low price and impenetrable reliability. A huge minus is aesthetics, or rather, the lack thereof. They are contrasted with aesthetic braces: ceramic and transparent sapphire braces. The latter are almost invisible on the teeth. The most aesthetic system for correcting bites in adults today are Invisalign aligners - invisible overlays on the teeth that slowly but surely move them in the right direction.
